FETAC Advanced Certificate in Sports Development Level 6 (DSDCX)
Entry Requirments
This course is designed to lead on from the Level 5 Certificate in Outdoor Recreation (DOREC). Students with accredited prior learning may also progress directly into this programme.
Certification
National Governing Body awards are completed and a range of Fetac Lev 5 and Lev 6 modules delivered.
Course Content
Students will be required to complete a total of 8 units to achieve the Fetac Lev 6 award. There will be a combination of theoretical and practical modules.

- Heritage and Culture (Lev 6)
- Leadership and Management (Lev 6)
- Train the Trainer (Lev 6)
- Lifeguarding (Lev 6)

- Rockclimbing Leadership (SPA)
- Kayak Lev 2 Instructorship
- Dinghy Sailing
- Safety Boat Handling
Kayaking
Students progress their personal kayaking skills and work towards an assessment for Kayak Lev 2 Instructor. This involves completing a logbook of sessions, among other requirements.
Pool Lifeguard
The target award is Pool Lifeguard. Water Safety & Life Saving Level II are necessary before progressing to the Pool Lifeguard. Assessments are conducted by Water Safety Ireland.
Dingy Sailing/Powerboating
Certification is by the I.S.A. The course is centered at our watersports base on Blessington Lake. The target awards are Level II Instructor. The target awards are Level II ISA awards in both dinghy sailing and safety boat handling. Assessments take place at Glenaans Sailing Centre, Collanmore Island, Co.Mayo or at Avon Ri in Blessington.
Mountaincraft
Navigation, basic rock- climbing, bivouacking and camping, safety and First Aid and environmental issues are delivered. Wicklow, the Mournes, the Reeks and other mountain regions are used for training. Students are assessed at Mountain Skills (Hillwalking Proficiency) level by An Bord Oiliuin Sleibhe (the Mountain Training Board).
